The Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776.
This began the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation.
The special day of July 4th is celebrated with parades, fireworks and many festivities to celebrate our freedom.


Here are some interesting facts related to July 4th.
 
1. There are 30 towns nationwide with "Liberty" in their name. The most populous one is Liberty,

Missouri with a population of 26,232. Out of all of the states Iowa has more towns that any other state:

Libertyville, New Liberty, North Liberty and West Liberty.


2. There are 11 towns nationwide with "Independence" in their name. The most populous is Independence, Missouri with 113,288 residents.


3. There are 5 towns nationwide with "Freedom" in their name. Freedom, California has 6,000 residents.


4. There is 1 town with "Patriot" in their name. Patriot, Indiana and their population is 202.


5. How would you like to spend your July 4th in a place called "America"? There are 5 such towns in the US with the most populous being American Fork, Utah with 21,941 residents.
 
Did you know that there were 125,000 flags flown over the U.S. Capitol last year. On July 4th, 2009 there were 1,200 flags flown over Washington D.C.
