Commander's Message
Written by Commander Daniel Grotkiewicz
Mar 26, 2010 at 01:10 AM

A number of things have taken place over the past few months. We paid tribute to a member who had passed away, George Leo Hauser. George was a quiet person and usually stayed to himself at meetings. He showed an interest in the Legion. He helped with the distribution of poppies and had even attended an executive meeting. When we attended his funeral I think we were all surprised to learn how active and generous he was with his church and with his family. George will be missed by everyone that knew him.  The Post also presented the family with the first Bible.  They were very appreciative.

Two of our committee members have asked to be replaced at their positions. Ruben Baumann asked for someone to take over the booking chairmen position.  We were lucky enough that Urban Braam stepped forward to take over those responsibilities. Ruben will stay on and finish his final year as an executive board member. Don Race, the chairman of Graves, Memorial and Visitation, informed me that he was no long willing to make visitations to those in the hospital, at nursing homes or recuperation at home.  Jim Smith has come forward to take charge of those duties.  Anyone in need or in distress can call me at 262.377.4629 or our Post Chaplain, Jim Smith at 262.388.4405.

Those who did not take part in the post festival party in February missed out on a wonderful time. The food was good.  Entertainment by Carol and the Keynotes was excellent. The afternoon started off with the

initiation of two new members Todd Lindeman and Timothy Pfaff. After the meal the afternoon was spent with playing cards and board games. Something new this year was Wii bowling. This proved to be entertaining and challenging for those who tried it. Thanks to Jeff Bauman for the use of his equipment. Those who stayed late spent the evening visiting and watching the Super Bowl.

Coming events include a pot luck, joint meeting on April 19. Stars and Stripes Honor Flights resume  May 2. Memorial Day and Post Elections will also be held in May. If interested, let one of the Past Commanders know you are interested in being nominated for a post officer position or serve on one of the committees.

The post web site is up and running. It is still under construction but contains several links that you can visit. When information is added, this web site will contain photos and a lot more about your post and its activities that space in the newsletter is prohibited to provide. Currently the newsletter is limited to how many pages can be published. So, turn on your computer and go to www.alpost470.org

Keep up the good work, and see you around the post.

 Hi Everyone!

At this time I would like to thank ALL of you who helped in any way for our Spaghetti dinner this past January. It was a big success Thanks to You!! We made a profit of $2,082.09.  This profit was split in half with the Legion receiving $1,041.04 and the Auxiliary receiving $1,041.05.  Without everyone’s help we could not have done this!!  This is what working together is all about.

 DUES
Just a reminder to those ladies who have not paid your 2010 dues of $16.00 please do so as soon as possible.  We’d like to be at 100% this year.

JOINT MEETING
Please note there will be a change of our meeting for the month of April.  We will have a joint meeting with the men on MONDAY, APRIL 19th at 7:00P.M.  (men’s regular time).  There will be a Pot Luck supper after the meetings.  You are asked to please bring a dish to pass—salad, hot dish, desserts etc.  If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 377-4629 any time.

We will NOT have a regular meeting then on that Wednesday this time!
